In March 2015, the report of a cross party Parliamentary Inquiry into the Use of Immigration Detention in the UK argued that the current detention system is “expensive, ineffective and unjust”. Its key recommendation was that indefinite detention should end and that there should be a time limit of 28 days.In Scotland, a broad civil society movement challenging detention is growing and it became a key issue in the 2015 general election campaign with SNP, Labour, LibDems and Greens all pledging to reform the system. Where do the results of the election leave the campaign for change?Join us for a timely discussion to consider the way forward.Refreshments will be provided.
