We simply couldn’t exist without our amazing volunteer visitors.
They bring a variety of skills and abilities to our work. And their kindness, commitment and understanding helps reduce the isolation and anxiety people in immigration detention experience.
Wondering who we’re looking for and what our volunteer visitors do?
Find out and put your talents to good use.
You can also watch this short film from AVID (Association of Visitors to Immigration Detainees). In it visitors (including some from SDV) and people who have been in detention talk about visiting and being visited.
We’re recruiting next…
Our next visitor recruitment session will be on:
- Wednesday 19 April, 2017. Deadline for applications is Wednesday 12 April.
If you’re interested in visiting with us, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for an application form.
After you apply
We review all applications to create a shortlist. If you are shortlisted, we’ll ask you to attend our volunteer recruitment and induction session in Glasgow. You’ll meet our staff and some of our current visitors. You’ll also learn more about detention, immigration, asylum and what it’s like to volunteer for us.
After you’ve successfully completed our recruitment and induction session, we can invite you to join us as a visitor. Here’s what some previous participants have said about the session:
“I thought the facilitators were excellent – very informative and relaxed. I had a very enjoyable day”
“I thought the entire event was well-planned and useful. It answered all of my questions”
“SDV put together exactly what I would expect from a training/induction day. The group activities we did were fun and informative”
